Find Business Opportunities Based on Population Growth
Knowing about population growth in a municipality can be good for finding new business opportunities. Of course, this depends on the types of business you do - but more residents means more potential customers. Population growth also serves as an economic indicator for a municipality in many cases. If the population increases sharply, it may indicate that the municipality, or surrounding municipalities, have many job opportunities. For example, Boden, where a large-scale facility for green steel is being built, has more people moving in than out. The project can create over 10,000 jobs and provided that the need for labor is met, the municipality can have an even higher influx of population in the future. But Boden is not the municipality with the largest population increase. We have reviewed statistics from Statistics Sweden on which municipalities are growing the most and the least. After the interactive map, we have listed the 10 fastest growing and shrinking municipalities where we have also given some different reasons why it looks the way it does.

Trosa belongs to the municipality with the highest percentage population increase. The proximity to Stockholm in combination with the relatively lower housing prices is a large part of the explanation. Above all, it is families with children who choose to move to Trosa. Even Upplands-Bro, with its proximity to Stockholm, is experiencing a strong population increase.
Challenges and Opportunities
An increasing population does not only bring positive effects. Population growth puts pressure on public activities, which must increase, for example, the number of school and elderly care places.
The same argumentation can be used for municipalities where the number of inhabitants is decreasing. However, it must be remembered that tax revenue in the municipality naturally also decreases when more people choose to move. At the same time, it means new opportunities for entrepreneurs in certain industries as more premises and housing become available. In several municipalities, the housing situation is strained and as an employer being able to attract competent labor who can also easily find housing can be a winning concept.
